Celebrate the fall equinox* by focusing your awareness on the beauty of the sky at sunset. Using the trataka (candle-gazing meditation) technique, modified for this special evening, Taylor's approach is secular and modern so everyone feels welcome.
Pay what you can, with suggested sliding scale ($0-15). No one turned away for lack of funds & no questions asked.
*Note: the actual fall equinox is on Monday September 22nd.

Use the practice of meditation and community support to reflect on:
Your passion, purpose, or focus in seeking liberation (the goal of yoga),
What actions you're taking, individually & as part of a community,
How you want to move forward in organizing, activating, and advocating for personal & collective freedom.
This offering meets monthly with a goal of keeping us accountable, while also allowing time for action, shifts, and progress.

Jester King Brewery, 13187 Fitzhugh Rd, Austin, TX 78736
Every Saturday at 10:00 AM, September 6th - November 29th, we will bridge the realms of darkness and tranquility and embark on a journey of connection and introspection.
Our immersive experience blends the raw power of doom metal with the serene philosophy of yoga, allowing space to uncover a deep connection within yourself and the natural world. We invite you to explore these contrasting yet harmonious elements in the presence of Jester King's gentle and magical goat herd. These incredible beings will accompany you throughout the class, offering an opportunity for profound connection. We believe that within this juxtaposition, you'll find a unique and profound connection that enriches your practice and transcends the boundaries of tradition.

In case y'all like to get ~philosophical~ (this will be a blog post in the future)...
Bassui Tokusho (1327-1387) was a Zen Buddhist monk whose teachings are collected in the book Mud & Water. In this book, in the chapter titled "Question Your Mind," Bassui offers a practice around the idea of perceiving sound and questioning the mind:
This idea is echoed by Thich Nhat Hanh in his book, The Other Shore:
And again in the Bhagavad Gita 5.8-9, as translated by Stephen Mitchell (& modified by me to remove gendered language)
So the next time you hear something that catches your attention (a song you love, a joyful sound, mundane background noise, a lying politician, etc.), try out this line of questions and see where it takes you. Is might go a little something like this:
Who is hearing this sound? Me, or something else that I identify as "me"?
Am I "doing" hearing, or is hearing "happening"?
How am I conscious of this sound?
What does it mean to "be me"?
What are all the things that come together to "be me"? Physically, neurologically, "spiritually"...
Am I this hearing, sensing body? Or some greater consciousness?
Where is the conscience? Does it stop at the boundaries of my physical body?
Let us know what you think!
